Penmanship – 35

Phonics:

  •             Workbook – 30 minutes
  •             Review sheets – 30 minutes

Reading:

  •             On-line tutor – 65 minutes
  •             Real book practice – 25 minutes

Math

  •             Workbook – 50 minutes
  •             Practice sheets – 40 minutes

Home Ec – 15 minutes

Civics – 60 minutes

first quarter hours

We are required to do 1000 school hours for a school year; July 1 to June 30.  600 hours have to be core, and 400 can be non-core.

There are many ways to look at, or break this requirement, down into functional bits:

  • 1000 / 12 = 83.33 so 84 hours a month
  • 1000 / 52 = 19.23 so 20 hours a week
  • 1000 / 365 = 2.7 so 3 hours a day

Here are our hour totals / tally up to the end of first quarter of 2013-2014 (that is July, August, Sept., and Oct.):

July:

We are roughly 51 hours ahead of where we ‘have to be’ as of October 31 2013

how we are doing on school hours

We have to log 1000 hours of school this year (July 1 to June 30); 600 have to be core, and 400 can be non-core.

If you do the math it breaks down this way:

  • 1000 divided by 12 months = 83.33 hours
  • 1000 divided by 52 weeks = 19.23 hours
  • 1000 divided by 365 days = 2.7 hours

Where we stand as of the end of August:

  • YTD total:  — we are 18% of the way there  —- 183 hours and 10 minutes total — that is 157 hours and 15 minutes of core and 25 hours and 55 minutes of non-core
  • Aug = 107 hours and 25 minutes core and 15 hours and 50 minutes non-core
  • July = 49 hours and 50 minutes of core and 10 hours and 5 minutes of non-core

We are more than meeting out 83 hours a month to reach 1000 in 12 months goal!!

Phonics 2.8.13

Big Brother has been rocking his phonics recently.  We finished Explore the Code 3, then went back and finished Explore the Code 2 ½  which we had done half of before we moved on to book 3.  We are currently working on book 3 ½  (reviewed silent e today).

Some of his recent reading:

  • Gramp is plump and fun.
  • Floss flings her blond wig at Slim.
  • Pol plans to do a stunt for the class.
  • Frank is stung and yells for help.
  • Can you swing a golf club at a plant?
  • Are you fond of crisp crust?
  • The goat will fly to the lake.
  • The flakes of snow float by.
  • Jean sneaks into the show and tell.
  • The mean brush dips Joan in the paint.
  • The toad sings on the train.
